Toute à ses pensées, Clara Purdy n'a pas vu la station wagon qui grillait le feu orange à l'intersection qu'elle s'apprêtait à traverser. Après le vacarme de la collision, c'est toute une famille en état de choc qui descend de la grosse voiture, leur seul domicile, et qui se retrouve à la rue.
